SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – June 18, 2019 – Global meeting, event, and destination management agency, Key Events, has been awarded a prestigious Green Business Certification for its commitment to sustainable event planning to conserve resources and prevent pollution in both facilities and operations.
The California Green Business Network leads the state and the nation in working with small to medium-sized businesses to create a vibrant green economy — and the Green Business Certification validates Key’s compliance with environmental regulations in the areas of waste, energy, water, pollution prevention, and air quality.
By helping to make our communities healthier and more livable, while also conserving resources and saving money, Certified Green Businesses exceed all environmental regulations and implement specific practices to reduce pollution, save water and energy, and protect human health.

Key worked closely with the San Francisco Department of the Environment, the city agency that runs San Francisco’s Green Business Program, where Key is based.

Key Events now joins over 350 certified green businesses in San Francisco and over 3,000 across the state who are demonstrating that economic and environmental sustainability can go hand-in-hand.”
The Green Business Certification was developed by The California Green Business Program which leads the state and nation in working with businesses to grow a vibrant and healthy green economy. The program has been funded wholly or in part by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Collectively, the measured results of all 3000+ California Green Businesses net some huge environmental outcomes:
- Over 800,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions reduced, the equivalent of planting over 40,000 urban acres of trees a year for ten years
- Enough kilowatt-hours saved to power 25,000 houses for an entire year
- Over 400,000 metric tons of waste diverted from the landfill, almost 60,000 garbage trucks worth of waste eliminated
- 124 million gallons of water saved – a lot of toilets and showerheads folks!
- Over 28,000 gallons of hazardous waste eliminated
Key’s commitment to sustainability continues beyond the completion of the Green Business Certification.
Key’s green certification practices will serve as the foundation for a set of standards that our customers can leverage at their own business events. Key’s Sustainability as a Strategy scope of services will be available on July 1st.
